January 2, 2012 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – Delivering performance and an even more aggressive look, the 2012 Dodge Charger Redline is a 426 HEMI®-powered showcase of new Mopar® performance kits that will arrive later this year. The Dodge Charger Redline vehicle with all three Mopar performance stage kits will debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.“Since the 1960s, the Mopar Brand has built a long history of adding power and performance to the Dodge Charger – and with the Redline, we Moparized the new Charger with modern-day performance and style while giving a nod to our storied past,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “With three kits, Mopar offers a tailored choice for every customer.”

Stage I: Aerodynamic Carbon Fiber Exterior Components and Interior Accents
Based on the 2012 Dodge Charger R/T model, Mopar’s list of Stage I modifications includes a full-width Mopar carbon fiber chin spoiler to give the Charger Redline a more aggressive appearance. Matching the Redline Tri-coat paint, the two-piece grille features a body-color painted-grille surround with black signature “crosshair” insert. Large 20 x 8-inch Mopar Black Envy Wheels feature a Pitch Black-painted wheel face with polished accents. Mopar carbon fiber door scoops highlight Dodge Charger Redline’s signature body-side scallops and include heritage “R/T” badging to pay homage to the historic 1970 Charger model. A three-piece Mopar carbon fiber rear spoiler adds additional down force and provides an even more dynamic look. Emphasizing Dodge Charger Redline’s fastback silhouette is Mopar’s vinyl roof graphic in matte black.

The Dodge Charger Redline’s cockpit design features premium materials and is further enhanced with a Mopar aluminum shift bezel and aluminum instrument panel bezel with Redline perimeter accent. For a more enthusiast-desired look, Mopar pedal covers are made from stainless steel and feature a rubberized pattern for improved traction.

Stage II: Mopar Bolt-on Performance Parts Deliver Improved Power, Handling and Braking
Designed and tested straight from the factory, the Dodge Charger Redline features Mopar’s Stage II performance kit to enhance its already world-class power, handling and braking.

Allowing the Dodge Charger Redline’s legendary HEMI® V-8 engine to perform at its optimal level, Mopar’s cat-back performance exhaust system delivers an increase in horsepower and a menacing “throaty” sound. Under the hood, a front-tower cross-brace and front tower brace caps provide increased structural stability for improved handling dynamics. For ultimate braking capabilty, high-performance Mopar brake linings are track tested and deliver fade-resistance during hard braking use.

Stage III: Mopar’s Gen III High Output 426 HEMI V-8 engine, with 590 Horsepower on Tap
Delivering 220 more horsepower than the 2012 Dodge Charger R/T, the Charger Redline features the new high-output version of the powerful and lightweight Gen III 426 HEMI V-8 crate engine (for race/off-road use only).

With its legendary 426 cubic-inch “Elephant Motor,” the Dodge Charger Redline delivers 590 horsepower via a lightweight aluminum V-8 engine block that shaves more than 100 lbs. from the traditional cast-iron crate version. The new Gen III High Output 426 HEMI engine is professionally built and includes a stout, balanced lower reciprocating assembly that features a forged-steel crankshaft with six-bolt mains at 2, 3 and 4, and cross-bolted 4-bolt mains at 1 and 5. H-beam style rods are made from forged steel and coupled to forged 11:1 compression ratio aluminum pistons. Included is a revised windage tray to provide excellent oil dispersion and prevents oil aeration by the crankshaft.

The Gen III High Output 426 HEMI engine’s valvetrain starts with a more aggressive roller camshaft with .639 intake and .628 exhaust lift and cylinder heads that feature the latest designs for exceptional flow characteristics. To help stabilize the valvetrain at high engine rpm, tie bars are available.

Mopar cast-aluminum valve covers and billet fuel rails are also included in the Dodge Charger Redline’s Stage III performance kit.

Saying Good Bye to the Dodge Caliber and Hello to the 2013 Dodge Dart!

December 26, 2011 Leave a comment

As the Dodge Caliber sales slowed the Chrysler Group LLC rebirths the All-New 2013 Dodge Dart!

Dodge redefines performance in the compact car segment with an all-new, state-of-the-art four-door sedan delivering class-leading aerodynamics. The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is a thoroughly modern vehicle that’s fuel-efficient, beautifully designed and crafted, agile and brings fun back to driving in the segment.

A Modern Blend of Precision Craftsmanship, State-of-the-art Technology & Safety, Exciting Bursts of Color and Hand-sculpted Shapes Create a Highly Customizable Interior

•New Dodge Dart built with materials and precision craftsmanship typically found in more expensive vehicle segments

•Customization is key – Dodge offers thousands of ways to personalize the Dart

•Available high-tech features include class-exclusive customizable 7-inch gauge cluster, 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen, heated steering wheel and illuminated floating island bezel

•Class-Leading Safety – Dodge Dart’s 10 standard airbags are unsurpassed in the compact car segment

The Dodge brand is giving a sneak peek into the high-tech, precisely crafted and highly customizable interior of its all-new 2013 Dodge Dart. Scheduled to be introduced Jan. 9 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the new Dodge Dart’s interior sets a new standard for compact cars.

Setting a New Standard – Quality & Spaciousness
Dodge designers focused on creating a modern blend of precision craftsmanship, state-of-the-art technology, exciting bursts of color and hand-sculpted shapes when designing the Dart’s interior, which is made with materials and technology typically found in more expensive vehicle segments. Starting with modern Dodge DNA and through the use of innovative ambient interior lighting, high-quality soft-touch materials and high-tech features, the 2013 Dodge Dart is loaded with cool amenities and unexpected delights for both drivers and passengers.

The Dart’s “driver-centric” layout is designed to put all controls within easy reach of the driver. Customizable displays and comfort-tuned seats are packaged in an exceptionally spacious, pleasing interior. Packaged in the footprint of a compact car, the 2013 Dodge Dart features the interior spaciousness of a mid-sized sedan, and it boasts best-in-class hip and shoulder room.

Unmatched Customization
Customization was key in the all-new Dodge Dart’s development, and with 12 exterior colors, 14 interior color and trim combinations, six wheel options, three engine options and three transmissions, each Dodge Dart can be personalized by every buyer to fit their individual style. And the combinations are multiplied exponentially, as Mopar will also offer hundreds of customization options and themed packages specifically developed for the Dart.

Class-leading Technology
The high-tech centerpiece of the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is the class-exclusive floating island bezel, which houses the segment-exclusive available 7-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) customizable gauge cluster display with light pipe surround that also houses the available class-exclusive UConnect Touch 8.4-inch touchscreen multimedia center — the largest touch-screen in its class.

Thoughtful storage options throughout fit today’s technology. The glove box easily conceals a stowed iPad; the center console features auxiliary jacks to plug in a wide variety of electronic devices, and thoughtful, inventive storage solutions, such as console map pockets, which are perfect for storing mobile phones, receipts, or pen and paper.

Lighting in all the right places provides drivers and passengers a warm, comfortable cockpit. Available “racetrack” lighting surrounds the floating island bezel. Ambient lighting for the door handles, map pockets, foot wells, glove box, storage bin and illuminated cup holders is both useful and provides a warm atmosphere inside the vehicle.

Unmatched Safety
Safety was also at the forefront in the development of the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart. Built on a strong foundation, constructed with 68 percent high-strength steel, engineers added both active and passive safety features, including 10 standard airbags, which is unsurpassed in the segment. The 2013 Dodge Dart is also the only car in its class to offer blind spot monitoring and rear cross path detection.

THREE SOPHISTICATED, FUEL-EFFICIENT & POWERFUL ENGINES
The 2013 Dodge Dart will be powered by three fuel-efficient, powerful, state-of-the-art four-cylinder engines that add to Dart’s fun-to-drive quotient.

Drivers can select from a new Tigershark 16-valve 2.0-liter engine, a 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir Intercooled Turbo engine, and a new Tigershark 16-valve 2.4-liter MultiAir four cylinder engine. These three engines, combined with three transmission choices, combine to redefine performance by providing the most diverse powertrain lineup in its class.

MultiAir technology delivers optimum combustion at any speed under all driving conditions by allowing direct and dynamic control of air intake and combustion. The result is up to a 15 percent increase in low engine rpm torque, a 7.5 percent improvement in fuel efficiency and a 10 percent reduction in C02 emissions.

The all-new Dodge Dart has been engineered with great levels of refinement, craftsmanship and engaging driving dynamics. Consumers can follow www.Dodge.com/Dart for additional photos and more information about the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart.

Saying Good-Bye to the Dodge Caliber is tough because the media crushed it. I personally owned a 2007 Dodge Caliber R/T manual that was a ton of fun to drive and I could get 33 MPG on long highway trips. It was very functional from the A/C cooled drink compartment above the glove box to the well lite cup holders, to the Music Gate fold down speaker system that jammed when turned up while tailgating! It also had reclining rear seats, and a plastic trunck to place groceries or a wet dog from the beach and not worry about spills or scratches.

Good-Bye Dodge Caliber and all of it’s factory workers making it possible at the Belvidere Assembly plant in Illinois!

Mopar ’11 Charger @ Carl Burgers Dodge Chrysler Jeep World

September 28, 2011 Leave a comment

At an event at an event to announce the new strategic partnership with Shell Oil and Magnetti Marelli, the Mopar division fully unveiled their newest production vehicle – the Mopar ’11 Charger. Like the Mopar ’10 Challenger issued last year, the Mopar-modified Charger features a variety of interior, exterior and performance modifications to help the limited edition performance sedan not just look great – but also rip from 0 to 60mph in the low 5 second range.

The Mopar ’11 Charger is offered strictly in the brilliant “Pitch Black” exterior with an offset “Mopar Blue” starting at the front fascia, running along the driver’s side of the hood, roof, trunk lid and down the rear fascia. The Dodge logo from the lower right quadrant of the Dodge crosshair grille has been removed in favor of a chrome Mopar badge and a set of 20-inch 5 spoke “Envy” wheels – finished in the same Pitch Black paint as the body adds to the sinister, sporty look of this muscular sedan. Finally, Mopar added a dual pedestal spoiler to the rear to cap off the Mopar ’11 Charger’s exterior package.

Front Seat Interior

Inside, the Mopar ’11 Charger features the same black and blue look as the outside, with Katzkin black leather seats finished with a Mopar Blue stripe running along the driver’s seat and the driver’s side of the rear seating area – mirroring the stripe on the outside of the Mopar ’11. A unique carbon fiber Mopar shift handle has been added, along with Mopar branded floormats and a unique “Mopar ’11 Limited Edition” plaque on the passenger side of the dash.

Other than the Mopar Blue accents and stripes, the entire interior is finished in black from the dash to the door panels to the carpeting with a splash of chrome and carbon fiber adding some sporty style to the full sized sedan. The interior alterations for the Mopar ’11 Charger finish up with a set of brushed silver Charger doorsill plates and a set of bright polished pedal covers. All of these items are added to the standard 2011 Dodge Charger R/T interior, which already includes the massive touch-screen based infotainment unit, multi-zone climate control, and a premium sound system.

The new Mopar ’11 Charger begins with the 5.7L Hemi V8, packing 370 horsepower and 395lb-ft of torque sent to the rear wheels via a W5A580 5-speed automatic transmission. There have been no modifications made to the engine to increase the power, but the performance of the Mopar ’11 is improved by the Mopar Super Track Pack. This adds a 3-mode stability control system, performance tuned steering, a sport suspension setup and a heavy duty, high performance braking system. This brake system uses vented rotors measuring 345mm x 28mm in the front with dual piston calipers and out back, rotors measuring 320mm x 22mm and straddled by a single piston caliber setup.

Next, Mopar added larger stabilizer bars measuring 30mm in the front and 20mm in the rear with cross-car strut tower braces in the front and rear – although for those looking to use their trunk for larger cargo the rear brace can easily be removed. Helping the Mopar ’11 Charger to dash from 0 to 60 in around 5 seconds, Mopar has replaced the 3.06 gears from the Super Track Pack in favor of a 3.91 gear setup and helping to make the most of the suspension improvements along with adding the best grip for hard acceleration, a set of Goodyear F1 Supercar 245/45ZR20 tires is wrapped around the sexy 20” Pitch Black rims.

Mopar will build 1000 Mopar ’11 Chargers with 900 of them intended for the US market and the other 100 will be sent to our Canadian neighbors. The Mopar ’11 will become available next week (the week of April 18th, 2011) with an MSRP of $39,750. Those lucky 1,000 Mopar ’11 Charger buyers in the US and Canada will also receive a personalized owner kit in a unique Mopar ’11 box. This kit includes a brochure highlighting the vehicles special features, a certificate with the car’s VIN, information on production of that specific vehicle including the actual build date, and the number (out of 1,000) of that specific Mopar ’11.

Under the Hood

Next, Mopar added larger stabilizer bars measuring 30mm in the front and 20mm in the rear with cross-car strut tower braces in the front and rear.

Green with Envy 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 392

Ever wonder what a SRT-8, Or SRT-8 392 means?

Here is the Wiki Chrysler_Hemi Link

Chrysler displayed a larger 6.4 L (392 cu in) Hemi in 2005 with output 525 horsepower (391 kW) and 510 lb·ft (691 N·m) torque. It is based on an iron 6.1 L engine block with aluminium alloy pistons.[8] In late 2009 Chrysler has said the new engine will be available in the next generation SRT8 Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300C and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Special-edition Challengers equipped with this engine, and the engines themselves, will bear ”392 HEMI” badging in commemorative reference to the first-generation Hemi engine of the same piston displacement.[9][10][11] In other applications, the engine is badged as “6.4L HEMI”.[12]

The production version of the 392 Hemi was launched in the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with variable camshaft timing as well as MDS in cars with automatic transmissions. Output is 475 hp (354 kW) and 460 lb·ft (624 N·m).[13][14] Availability of the 6.4 is to expand to the Chrysler 300SRT8 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

Since 2007, a crate version has been available under the name 392 Hemi.[14]

Now see what it looks like!

The Chrysler Hemi engine, known by the trademark Hemi, is a series of V8 engines built by Chrysler with a hemispherical combustion chamber. Three different types of hemi engines have been built by Chrysler for automobiles: the first (known as the Chrysler FirePower engine) from 1951–1958, the second from 1964–1971, and the third beginning in 2003. Although Chrysler is most identified with the use of Hemi as marketing term, many other auto manufacturers have incorporated similar designs.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Chrysler also used the Hemi name for their Australian-made Hemi-6 engine and applied it to the 4-cylinder Mitsubishi 2.6L engine they installed in various front-drive vehicles in the North American market.

A hemispherical (i.e., bowl-shaped) combustion chamber allows the valves of a two valve-per-cylinder engine to face each other across the chamber, rather than opening side-by-side. This creates more space in the combustion chamber roof for the use of larger valves and also straightens the airflow passages through the cylinder head. This creates what is known as a cross-flow head, where the intake charge flows directly across the chamber to the exhaust valve located directly opposite it. These features significantly improve the engine’s airflow capacity, which can result in relatively high power output from a given piston displacement. But the design can also significantly increase the flow of incompletely combusted air-fuel mixture straight out of the exhaust valve. With a hemi combustion chamber, there is minimal quench and swirl to burn the fuel-air mix thoroughly and quickly; the spark plug is frequently located at or near the centroid of the chamber to facilitate complete combustion. Hemispherical combustion chambers, because of their lack of quench, are more sensitive to fuel octane rating; a given compression ratio will require a higher octane rating to avoid ping in a hemi engine than in a wedge engine.[citation needed] Engines with hemispherical combustion chambers often use dome-topped pistons to attain the desired compression ratio.

The hemi head usually has intake and exhaust valve stems that point in different directions, requiring a large, wide cylinder head and complex rocker arm geometry in both cam-in-block and overhead cam engines. This adds to the overall width of the engine, limiting the vehicles it can be installed in.

All-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit

The interior of the Overland Summit model elevates the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee to new levels of indulgence and refinement for drivers seeking the ultimate personal driving statement in a premium sport-utility vehicle.

“The 2011 Ward’s ‘10 Best Interiors’ award helps prove that the new Grand Cherokee is truly a no-compromise Jeep,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “By combining this award-winning interior with the Jeep brand’s legendary 4×4 capability, even the most discriminating customers can have it all.” The Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit emphasizes an unparalleled level of the authenticity of the Jeep brand, with attention to detail and hand-craftsmanship throughout. As the most luxurious Jeep in the lineup, the Overland Summit model features Black lower and New Saddle upper interior leather-wrapped trim on its door panels, center console and instrument panel with accent piping. Surrounding passengers with the highest levels of craftsmanship and world-class materials, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit features unique Black Olive burl real wood trim on the instrument panel and doors, contrasts the two-tone leather-wrapped environment. Distinctive satin silver and chromed accents highlight the interior for a truly upscale look and feel. The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit features an all-new two-gauge instrument cluster that is surrounded by satin silver and chrome, and features LED back-lighting, which makes it easier to read at night. A new three-spoke heated steering wheel with Black Olive burl wood accent features ergonomically located steering-wheel mounted control functions placed on the front and back of the spokes. Attention to detail, including how controls and surfaces should feel were benchmarked against the world’s best. The center stack neatly houses Jeep Grand Cherokee’s climate controls, radio and an electronic switch bank. Even the HVAC outlet wheels have a sensual feeling. Located on the bottom of the center stack is a covered bin lined with a rubber mat that is illuminated when opened and perfect for tucking away a cellular phone or other hand-held devices. For a finished look and premium feel, the glovebox and the armrest upper-storage compartments features velvet-like surfacing that also helps to prevent unwanted noise from stored items. Located next to the gear shifter are illuminated cup holders. The center console storage is capable of storing up to seven CDs or DVDs and houses a power outlet and iPod docking station. Additional storage may be found on doors that are equipped with map pockets which also include a designated space to store a water or soda bottle. This Jeep Grand Cherokee model features an all-new seat design for maximum driver and passenger comfort. First-row seats feature molded shoulder corners, giving seats a robust look. Finished in New Saddle colored premium Nappa leather, the heated and ventilated front seats and 60/40-split-fold and reclining heated-rear seats feature perforated inserts, with accent colored piping and French-seamed stitching. Berber floor mats with Black and Chestnut accent binding finish off the distinctive interior. Interior refinements and thoughtful details make the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit pleasing to its passenger. Aircraft-inspired LED lighting is placed within the interior cabin, map pockets, door grab handles and foot wells — perfect for driving or entering and exiting the vehicle at night. Several storage and convenience features have been designed into the rear cargo area including an available grated, protective floor accented with a durable and bright finish. The spare tire has a dedicated space underneath the cargo floor that also contains two removable bins ideal for storing beverages or muddy gear. Also new to the rear cargo area is a storage unit with a removable/rechargeable flashlight. New and improved grocery hooks are placed on each side of the rear cargo compartment.

The 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit edition available at a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $42,495 for 4×2 models, and $45,995 for 4×4 versions (plus $780 destination respectively).

All-new 2011 Dodge Charger Rallye Plus

The interior cockpit of the 2011 Dodge Charger Rallye Plus is meant to be an enthusiast office. The all-new design features premium materials throughout. “The all-new Dodge Charger delivers world-class performance and technology wrapped around standout American styling and premium materials at a value few manufacturers can match,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO — Dodge Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “The honor of winning the Ward’s ‘10 Best Interiors’ award underscores the Company’s commitment to deliver our customers interior design excellence they deserve at a price they can afford.”

With premium materials and its driver-centric design theme inspired by the 1971 historic model and 1999 concept car, the interior of the 2011 Dodge Charger Rallye Plus is instantly brought to life by the new driver’s bezel. The premium aluminum-lithograph bezel enables a seamless, billeted and highly-detailed appearance that carries through the instrument cluster and center console. Thanks to advanced manufacturing techniques, the aluminum bezel features one-piece construction for a consistent appearance from nearly the A-pillar to the surrounding area of the Uconnect® Touch, highlighting all the ergonomically located vehicle functions for the driver. Transmitting the performance chassis’ world-class feel of the road, this all-new Dodge Charger features a new thick-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel for enhanced performance feel and grip. The right-sized 360 degree heated-steering wheel features silver metallic painted spokes at the 3-, 6- and 9 o’clock positions and is available in hand-stitched leather. The integrated center stack design eliminates traditional “picture framing” of the radio and climate control elements, resulting in a distinctive “flow-through” appearance that conveys simplicity and uniformity from the instrument panel through the center console.

Keeping the center stack design tidy is the all-new state-of-the-art Uconnect® Touch. With the segment’s largest touchscreen infotainment system (8.4-inch screen), Uconnect Touch neatly centralizes all of Dodge Charger Rallye Plus’ in-vehicle connectivity and climate controls. Surrounding passengers with comfort and craftsmanship, Dodge Charger Rallye Plus features soft-to-touch cast-skin upper instrument and door panels with a premium dual gloss finish. The cast-skin panels incorporate a soft backing — a notable upgrade from more common painted surfacing — so when the driver or passengers touch or lean against it, it is soft, while delivering the high-levels of perceived quality expected from a world-class performance sedan. Dimensional graining in the instrument panel and upper door surfaces enables an upscale dual-gloss appearance. Areas, including the seats, lower-instrument panel, interior-door scallops and door “islands,” are coordinated for a consistent color design and are available in four distinct color combinations — including premium materials in Black with Tan and Black with Radar Red — to provide 2011 Dodge Charger Rallye Plus owners’ the opportunity to personalize their car. In addition, Dodge Charger Rallye Plus features significantly upgraded five passenger seating, including 12-way power driver and passenger heated-front seats (including four-way lumbar), and 60/40-split-fold heated-rear seats wrapped in soft Nappa leather. No detail on the 2011 Dodge Charger was overlooked. The heated/cooled and front cupholder features rubberized retention-fingers can be adjusted to prevent beverages from tipping. For a clean design aesthetic, a tambour door slides into place when the cupholders are not being used. Even the A-, B- and C-pillars are wrapped in fabric — an execution once seen only on premium import E-segment sedans. Oversized door pockets feature grained surfacing on all four doors and integrate bottle holders. An oversized illuminated glovebox with dampened hinges features velvet-like interior surfacing, center-positioned illumination for even light distribution and even an upper shelf to store the owner’s manual. A cubby bin located in front of the shifter surface also carries a rubberized mat, as well as a 12-volt power outlet. The substantial amount of storage space in the 2011 Dodge Charger Rallye Plus is not only intuitively designed for optimal use but also tactfully refined. The crafted protein-

vinyl wrapped center armrest opens for easy access to the USB port, auxiliary input jack or auxiliary power outlet. Inside, abundant ambient LED lighting is located in footwells, door-pull cups, overhead console (to light the center console below), door map pockets, front cupholders, armrest-mounted rear cupholders and cubby bin located in front of the center console shifter. The 2011 Dodge Charger Rallye Plus is available at dealerships now with a MSRP of $29,170 (plus $825 destination).
